What Should The U.S. Do About Immigration?

Written By Linda Mains
OK kids, today I’m going to ramble on about immigration. Well somebody needs to talk about it! Has anyone noticed the flux of illegal and legal immigration, that’s been going on for at least 10 years now? Yes my mother was an illegal immigrant…or Jet Back as she likes to call herself. But things were a lot different during the season of free love in the 60’s, and the immigration laws were a lot stricter. My mother did get caught by the I.N.S and was sent rocketing back to her homeland. Something she will tell you that she deserved. Why? Because she knew what she was doing was wrong, coming here illegally and she felt badly, because, she had come here in search of a new life illegally.
Is it racist to talk about such a politically loaded subject? I don’t believe so…since I am a child of an illegal then legal immigrant. I have the right as a citizen to voice my opinion about this issue. Why? Because, I am forced to live with the decisions that one half of my American ancestors had made, now the Costa Rican side, is very strict about their immigration laws, just like most Central American countries are. So why do Central American Countries have strict immigration laws; they created those laws, and their government protects their citizens whom are workers, from having their jobs stolen from them, by illegal emigrants. I visited Costa Rica when I was 14, Mexico when I was also that same age, and Porto Rico when I was 27. Guess what? There really wasn’t a lot of cultural diversity in those countries. You could also add a lot of intolerance for foreigners and immigrants in those countries. I saw very little of both in all 3 of those places.  Do you think that the America that we know would ever exist in a Hispanic country? Maybe you do…but I know that, the fear, racisms and hate, which many of these Latin Americans have for each other, would never allow what is going on in America, to ever be tolerated there. I will give you an example; when I went to Costa Rica, while on a bus mind you, with my mother as my translator. The people on this bus, started yelling at a black woman that was walking by, calling her the devil, while some where throwing stones at her. Now that’s what they did to a woman whom spoke Spanish and was born there. What do you think would happen to an illegal immigrant, living in a Central American Country? Well for one, it wouldn’t happen, because, these governments have strict immigration laws. Not that any American would really want to defect and live in any Central American Country. I’m just proving a point! That in most other countries…becoming a citizen, or…even being allowed legal entrance to live and work there, is a lot harder, then it is here in the states.
I’m talking about this really heated topic tonight, because, I was watching MNSBC and one of there nightly anchor men said; “well if people knew where we had come from, if they knew how most immigrants have made up the backbone of the United States…then they would feel differently!” I’m sorry, but I know where we come from, and 300 years ago we needed immigrant laborers, to build railroads, streets, and whatever else that needed to be built. But this is 2011 and things have changed. I’m not saying that we should abolish immigration! I’m not saying that! I’m saying that immigration really needs a tune up. We need to do better background checks…and if you are from a 3rd world country, we need to know what you plan on “contributing to our society!”  Our country should not be the Good Will ambassador’s for the entire world, or for the takers of the world.  Or so that poor people, whom lived in the gutter where they lived, can buy a plane ticket and live and then run down our communities while living here! They will only be living a little bit better then they did when they where in their own countries; which in my opinion isn’t good enough! Those aren’t the types of people that America needs in America! We need movers and shakers with dreams, and the abilities to make those dreams come true! We need people whom want to be Americans… to better their and their children’s lives, whom are willing to work hard and prosper. We need Immigrants whom aren’t willing to trade in one slum, for another slum that is a little bit better here in the U.S., then the slum that they came from.
When our founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence, they weren’t thinking how building a country upon immigrant migration might back fire. They couldn’t of seen, that there would be many low life’s from other countries, that would all to gladly come here, then take advantage of our country and our citizens kindness. There was no-way for our founding fathers to know, the damage that would eventually befall upon our country, because, our country will not enforce our immigration laws! With that damage being, that many of these low-lives, low-class types of legal and illegal immigrant have brought down many cities within states all across America. If you don’t believe me, go venture to L.A or deep into the Valley of L.A county and you can see slum after slum while visiting there. Is that the type of America that you want to live in? Because I know, that that was not what the founding fathers wanted for America’s citizens, when they allowed immigrants to come to America in the first place.  Here’s my saying about why some immigrants come here while never trying to do any better. Why? Because just like with learning English, you’ll have to want to do something, and do you want to know what that something is? It’s called trying! Look! We don’t need anymore undocumented day laborers, or uneducated middle easterners working at minimum waged jobs, which people whom, are citizen’s need. We need the people from around the world, which want to come here, so that they can experience the American dream, and transfer that dream from one generation to another. America doesn’t need anymore poverty stricken, and anymore uneducated day laborers from around the world. Most of whom aren’t even willing to learn how to speak English. I don’t want to be mean…but, I guess there is no nice way to say it! Maybe America needs a sign in every state that says; “to all emigrants legal and illegal, if you’re not willing to try to improve your third world way of living. If the only reason that you came here was to drown America in your poverty, never trying to do better and never trying to become educated people. Then please do all the citizens and immigrants here a favor and leave! And no we the American people no-longer owe you shit! So leave!”
On the side of all the hard working immigrants, that lives and works in America, those immigrants whom are taking college courses at High Schools and Colleges across America. I for one salute you, and I personally want to thank you for coming to my country and giving your all to change your lives. My mother and my step father are both immigrants. They put themselves threw college, and my step father put his son and daughter threw college. My step brother became a micro biologist. Yes, I said a micro biologist! The American dream still survives, but how long will that dream survive? Only time will tell but if we continue to allow the worlds poorest low-lives, to continue to roost and raise children here…then those parents will instill their uneducated values of poverty, and taking advantage of our system into those kids. Many of their children will become unwed mothers on welfare with 2 or 3 kids, and many of their sons will wind up in prison. Is that the America that you want to continue to live in? I for one know that that was not the type of future, which the founding fathers had envisioned for America. If this influx of the worlds poor is not stopped from coming here, then one day…America will just become another third world country itself, and that’s why I believe, that the announcer from MNSBC is simply wrong.

Emotional and well thought out. Thanks for sharing. Always a hot button topic for most. Generally, it's not an issue of racism, only when it comes down to discriminating against people because of the color of their skin. Jokingly, you never hear the same arguments for stronger border patrol when it's regarding our nice neighbors to the north.
