From the documentary; why we fight? Dwight D Eisenhower said; I’ve witnessed 4 major wars coming from great nations. Did you know that America has a permanent Military Arms Establishment?Yes there is a Military Arms Establishment, and that establishment is our new American-Experience, but we must not fail to comprehend its grave complications. So what are we fighting about in War after War anyway?
John McCain said; we are one of the greatest forces for good in the world, and we need to spread democracy and freedom in the world. But my biggest question to what John McCain has said is; why is it our job to police the whole world and bring our form of governance to those countries? If those countries wanted to become democratic…wouldn’t they have their own revolutions, and start their own democracy’s?
Ronald Regan said; military power is a force for peace not for conquest.
When was the last time anyone can remember any military action being a force for peace? There was a man on a subway in New York in the documentary; he went on to tell us that the train was making a 90 degree turn…he then said; when you looked out of the window when the train was going around the turn that looked at the Twin Towers. He said he saw the planes that hit the twin towers hit, and everybody started to jump up while gasping. He looked at the twin towers explode and he wondered if his son got out alive?
What is Blow Back? Blow back is a CIA term that doesn’t mean the unintended consequences of foreign operations; it actually means the unintended consequences that were deliberately kept secret from the American public. So when the retaliation does come, it stops cause and effect for people so they can’t come up with questions like; why do they hate us? Our government did not want the forensic motive asked; what were the terrorist’s motives for 9/11?
The father of one of the victims asked the broadcasters; how many times are you going to show the Twin Towers falling, you’re ripping my heart out. He went on to say that he wanted the enemy dead for taking his son. So why did the media show us those images over and over again? It’s plain and simple they wanted us to hate the enemy A.K.A (terrorists). Before 9/11 there was a discussion in government, which did include the prospect of a pre-emptive military strike against the nation of Iraq.
Joseph Crincione Cornegie for the Endowment for Peace said; there was a moment when everyone in Taron was behind us, the whole world behind us…until kids started getting killed, and we started spending billions on the war in Iraq. What’s happening here? You have to take stock in this, while asking; what went wrong here?
Gore Vidal said; we live in a state of amnesia in America.
Charles Lewis said; in the entire history of the U.S., when there is something we don’t like somewhere in the world, that’s when we will dispense military force. This isn’t about one President or one Party…we always mention freedom, when much more has been going on privately.
Bush; the violence that was deliberately enacted on America were more than acts of terror, they were acts of war!
Government had said of September 11, that this would give the powers that be, the chance to put in plans, plans that had been in the works since 1992. Our policy must be to maintain that…just like ancient Rome had done. Will Kristol said; we need to rethink American foreign policy. LT. Col Karen Kwiatkowski stated that; 9/11 was a very dramatic thing that changes you prospective, but the war in Iraq, had nothing to do with terrorism.
If you saw something about to be launched you stop it, that’s common sense so what the big fuss about preemption. On March 19, 2003 the U.S Air Force Stealth Fighter Wing was ordered to conduct a precision airstrike on a location in southern Baghdad. The fighter pilot on a team of 2 pilots said; it’s a night I’ll never forget. 117’s are only ordered on the order of the President…all of which is kept on the top secret order. The pilots said they didn't think they expected us to come back when they had sent us on this mission.
The Bush Doctrine is not unknown in life. That we are going to be a dominate nuclear power, world war II was the formation of the American Military Empire. Eisenhower saw it happening, and he saw the military empire happening ever since World War II and he felt that Nazism was a terrible tyranny. Europe was bleeding to death at that time, and all those paper cities had all been burned up. We created an Atomic bomb and we were now the New Supper Power.
The United States bombed Hiroshima and 3 days later we dropped another nuclear bomb. 99% of us had been convinced that those bomb droppings would stop the war. Perhaps we were creating a preemptive world war…Eisenhower didn’t like the dropping of those bombs. There was a feeling down low, that we wished we hadn’t invented the bomb. From that moment on the American empire was in every corner of the world…
What are we fighting for? Continued freedom, there’s no answer, for ideals and what we believe in…or are we fighting for something much more sinister?
Today we don’t have a broad feeling of why or what we are fighting. There was a series of movies about why we fight, we had them in World War II, and this was a propaganda film which we promoted. Today if you went down to any local town in America, you’d get 5 different answers about why we are fighting.
What we are seeing is a disconnection to foreign policy with the average American citizen. The man who lost his son during 9/11 talked about him and said; someone asked him what could they could do for him, he said he wants to do something so one day my son will find justice, and to tell him while standing at his grave; I have tried to do something that would be a step in the right direction. At the end of Eisenhower’s second term, he said; watch out for the American Military Complex. We must never let the weight of this endanger our liberties or democratic processes!
We spend more on defense than any other country….Eisenhower’s words have come true. He was concerned about the power that big business and big military corporations to start wars would one day have. Big Military Corporations have to find ways to keep congress interested in buying their weaponry, to carry out the American way of war. Raytheon missile systems job is to provide all the missile systems that the American Military needs. The American way of war, is overwhelming fire power, which is supported by overwhelming logistics; the gas, the boots, the tanks…ect.
A woman who made those bombs said she’d rather be making toys for Santa. A general said; that if Military Corporations wrap the flag around every weapon system…it’s like when the Auto Industry improves their cars; if they stopped those improvement that they make on those cars from happening every so often; would you buy the car?
For an operation that cost Al-Qaeda 50K to pull off, it has cost America more than the entire war in Vietnam. Basically when Military Corporations are bidding for a contract you low ball the initial estimate, you over-promise what it will do, and then you underestimate the kind of burdens it’s going to impose. Once the air force buys it, then you start flooding money to as many congressional districts, as soon as possible, as quickly as possible. The b-2 bomber has a peace of it made in every single state, so if you stop making it, you will get howls from every single Senate Member…it’s not two links, its three, it’s the military, and the industry and congress; losing a 100 defense jobs, means that the representative, will lose votes. Lockheed Martin has won a lot of pricey war contracts. 71 companies after September 11 were given contracts to go into Afghanistan and Iraq, and all of the top 10 companies had former U.S officials, that had worked in the Pentagon or other parts of the U.S government on their board of directors, as their top executives. It’s called the revolving door…and public officials make triple and quadruple of what they made in public service. The number one recipient of war-contracts was Vice President Chaney who helped run Halliburton and one other defense company.
A woman whom built bombs said that she helped build a bomb, which would implode while exploding inside a building or a cave. What do you think they might have used a bomb like that for? The invasion in Iraq was to reposition the U.S as the country that must be obeyed, and anyone that defies the U.S will be attacked. We needed a bomb that would allow us to strike threw the weather one of the fighter pilots had said. We had no idea who we were going to hit, when we were doing the stealth missions. The hardest target is a human being…there was no hope for democracy with Saddam Hussein in the way so the U.S took him out. The U.S. wants to spread democracy around the world on the point of bayonets! At first the Iraqi people where for the U.S…but the debate and controversy began there; when does the U.S go from a force of good to a force of imperialism?
It’s not just for the long term benefit of the U.S., it’s also for Iraqis benefit too. After the Second World War, we literally divided the world into command posts, so that the world wouldn't fall into the hands of communism. We have to put the 1950’s into perspective; it was actually a very dangerous period of time…there is a threat to how much is enough defense spending to stop the communists?
In fact our defense spending would cause a terrible cost. Eisenhower said; under the weight of war it’s humanity hanging from a cross of steal. His Eisenhower son said; defense spending took food from the homeless and the hungry. He said that his own ability to shape national security policy was hemmed in by forces, which he could not control. While stating; God help the President who doesn't know as much as I do about defense, 3 and a half million men and women are in the defense programs. We understand the need for these programs, and we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought.
The potential for unplaced influence will continue to prosiest if we do nothing. A great number of ideas for war come from American think tanks like the new American century; which said they had even argued for the Bush doctrine before it existed, it included principles by Rumsfeld. We came up with; weakness is provocative, strength deters. A high standing official said; we wanted to build up our defenses even before 9/11, Iraq under Saddam Hussein was a terrorist threat, just like Iran is a terrorist threat; they encourage terrorism and they need to be eliminated! It is not at all accidental… when Bush mentioned Iraq, Iran, and North Korea in the 2002 state of the Union message during his Axes of Evil speech.
In a real way we have a new phenomenon, where think tanks are now a part of how we think about the Military Industrial Complex. Eisenhower may well have been predicting; that if we didn't keep an eye on this complex, we would see what he called the disastrous rise of miss-placed power. In August of 2002 everyone would be thrown into an expanded Iraq desk, with the sole purpose of making an enemy out of Iraq. Any document that they prepared, had a set of talking point about Iraq, WMD and terrorism and they were to use them in any document that they prepared. But the only problem was…when you looked at these talking points about Iraq that they posed a serious terrible evil threat, to not just his neighbors, but also to the U.S. that would be the statement that Saddam Hussein was a danger. But the intelligence stated that Saddam had only pursued looking for nuclear material in the late 80’s, but he had not done it sense then. But we were supposed to make it look like it had happened in 2001 something that had never happened. They created false-hoods and fantasy’s, so that they could have their war.
Bush said; we will fight with the full force of the military and we will prevail!
It turns out that it’s not that hard to make a country go to war. Even in a country like the United States where there is freedom of information and multiple media channels can be dominated by the government and they can dominate any debate, dominate any argument. We have this idea that we have so much information available, but there is so much information that is hidden from Americans, that so much of the truth is obscured, by so many political actors.
Why are they doing this? Because they don’t want America knowing the truth! So the Government has limited access while limiting information, to cover the backsides of those that got us into the war in Iraq, which is extreme and cannot and should not be accepted. The pentagon has worked extremely hard for many years to shape the News and has trained people to say things in a certain way. Privately after Vietnam they said because the people had found out about what was really going on, that that was the reason that they had lost the war.
So they limited the media from going to the battle grounds, while keeping the American people from seeing the murders and the deaths. You get to the Iraq war, where you see this new vehicle called embedding, but no one was asking the real questions like; why we were in Iraq in the first place? The reporters need access to power; they need the leader and everyone in government to be in the media. They need to say that the leader is getting better and better every day. For any reporter to get a front page story, by restricting the discussion about the rush to war in Iraq.
The fighter pilots was happy, because he was going to drop his bombs, and couldn't see the people that he’d be killing with those bombs. He was going to drop it on the presidential palace. They dropped two 4000 pound bunker buster…and that was the opening strikes of Iraqi Freedom. The operation was successful or was it? At first the Iraqis where happy about their liberation…these weapons are almost 100% accurate, so that the U.S. could now wage wars while preventing casualties…but it’s simply not true. The truth is many children and families in the Middle East have been hit and killed by those bombs.
So in the end; why is America fighting wars? I believe that the Military establishment wants more money…threw the war machine or as I like to call it the death machine. Killing has become a very lucrative business. The Iraq war pulled in over 4 billion dollars in just war defense contracts…that’s not even mentioning all the money made from pillaging the Iraqis natural resources and everyone knows that oil is one of the biggest war machines natural resources. Without oil the war machine would come to a complete stop. My only question is can you spread democracy threw attacking another country and forcing democracy down their throats? What is liberty for us and for the rest of the world? Do we really need to bring our companies into other countries threw creating wars? Couldn’t those same companies get into those countries in some other fashion? I think wars should only be fought when we actually have to fight to protect our citizenry.
