Lets remember the fallen soldiers on Memorial Day today. So I asked my man; "so Memorial day, really isn't a HAPPY day, type of celebration is it?" It's the type of day, that our country gives those, that have fallen for our sakes, out of respect. Right now hundreds of people, still die in the desert everyday! Just like in the movie the 4 feathers. Which is one of my all time favorite movies. The lead in this movie, died from an accidental overdose, and in my opinion, he was one of the best actors of all time. I'm talking about Heath Ledger, whom was the main character in the Four Feathers movie.
Anyway, this move is about the redemption of a Colonel's son, who only joined the military, to make his father happy. But the night before everybody left. Harry the movies main character got cold feet, and a yellow streak in him. He then decided to resign from his military service, right before everybody was shipped off into battle. So his friends gave him the four feathers of cowardice. He had a bad feeling that everyone would die out there in the desert. Harry couldn't live with himself for abandoning his friends. So he decided to travel to the Sudan to see if he could help his friends, if, they needed his help. On the way, a black warrior, found Harry half dead in the middle of the desert and became his best friend while he was in the Sudan. When Harry asked the warrior, why he had decided to save him? He said; "because God put you in my way."
His warrior friend, wound up being flogged, for trying to warn the British Army, of a sneak attack that the people of the Sudan, had in store for them. Although Harry couldn't save all his friends, during the heat of that massacre, he did save 3 of them. So his last friend, had been taken prisoner, and Harry went into that God Forsaken prison, to save him. Now to me, having your friend's backs, in the heat of a battle, and going that extra distance, even sacrificing your own life. To make sure your brothers in Arm's are safe, is what military service is all about. This post is for all the fallen soldiers, whom weren't lucky enough to have Harry as their best friend, and whom won't be coming home. Men who did lose their life's, for those far away battles or believes for our sakes.
This is my favorite speech from the movie the 4 feathers. Which to me is what memorial day represents, and it was given by Jack, Harry's best friend in the movie. Who was blinded in the Sudan when his rifle backfired, and was saved by Harry, even though he was planing on marrying Harry's fiance.

Here's the speech that Jack made:
Jack: you may be lost...but you are not forgotten. For those who have journeyed far to fight in foreign lands know that the soldier's greatest comfort is to have his friends close at hand. Welcome home, Harry.
Harry: Thank you, sir.
Jack: In the heat of battle it ceases to be an idea for which we fight...or a flag. Rather... we fight for the man on our left and we fight for the man on our right...and when armies have scattered and when the empires fall away... all that remains is the memory of those precious moments...we spent side by side.
